TOURNAMENT TEAM FAQ
When and where are practices?
All practices are held in Canandaigua
After school training in the Fall and Spring, 2-3x/week.
This is where kids get individual fundamental work on individual skills with coaches.
The tournaments are wonderful but the real improvement happens with the after school training.
To maximize convenience, the after school training is exactly that; right after school.
Typically 315-430 or 445 PM and is located in Canandaigua school gyms.
We may have a practice on the weekends if we do not have a tournament.
WHEN and where are tournaments?
Tentatively, the tournament dates will be as follows:
(3rd graders only play tournaments in the Winter but they get the training in the Fall and Spring)
October 12, 13 (Macedon)
November 30, December 1 (Monroe County)
December 27-30 (not all 4 days) (Monroe County)
Feb 28 - March 2 OR March 8, 9 (Monroe County)
April 12, 13 (Brockport)
April 26, 27 (Macedon)
May 10, 11 (Penfield)
June 7,8 OR June 13, 14 (1000 Islands - Clayton, NY)
how does this compare to other club programs?
The tournament team is a club team, like any other you might find in basketball or other sports.
Examples you might be familiar with include:
Basketball: Fury, Shock, Titans
Softball: Smash it Sports, Vipers
Lacrosse: Monster, Aces, Common Goal
Hockey: Knights
Similarities w/ other club teams:
Designed for competitive athletes who are passionate about the sport
Requires true commitment
Differences w/other club teams:
Practices are all in Canandaigua and right after school
Tournaments are local (Typically a 20-30 minute drive)
Only one overnight trip (in NYS) that is optional.
We are exploring taking a team abroad (Costa Rica in April of 2026!) but that would be totally optional.
No one is profiting, in fact the cost to parents is heavily subsidized.
When there are conflicts with community, in-season sports we say kids should go to that sport.
How are teams determined?
There are tryouts for each age group.
We will probably keep 10-14 kids per age group
We will not take more than 10 kids to a tournament so there will be alternates.
There are two tryout dates and all players must come to at least one tryout.
To give your daughter the best opportunity to show what she can do, we recommend players come to both, especially if they are new to the tournament team.
Coaches of the team do NOT have a hand in selecting the team.
When selections are made, players will be given their options but, everyone can play at some level.
Those options include:
House League
Travel
Tournament Team Alternate
Tournament Team
what happens if there is a conflict with another sport?
Conflicts will be EXCEEDINGLY RARE but if they do occur, please refer to the decision making process below:
If the conflict occurs in Winter, go to basketball.
If the conflict occurs with a club team (ie not a Canandaigua Community team) go to basketball.
If the conflict occurs with a Canandaigua community team in their season (ie Spring or Fall) go to that sport.
**To determine what sport is "in-season" we will use the scholastic regular season calendar.**
how does the tournament team co-exist with travel basketball?
After school training will only be in the Fall and the Spring.
Tournaments will only be played when the travel teams have a bye.
You're TOURING another country!?
Possibly. We are exploring the possibility of taking a team to Costa Rica in 2026 to play local teams and experience a different culture. More details to come!
If your daughter is on the tournament team, the trip would be completely optional.
